Wynwood Pride 2022
Graphic Design, Art Direction, Creative Direction, and Production
Wynwood Pride 2022 marked a significant return to the festival’s full in-person experience, delivering a two-day celebration with an impressive lineup that included Marina, Azealia Banks, CupcakKe, Slayyyter, Violet Chachki, Gotmik, and more. With three stages and a diverse mix of artists, this year's festival was one of the most expansive and dynamic to date. As the creative and art director, I spearheaded the visual identity, ensuring a cohesive and compelling brand presence across every platform and element.
Creative & Art Direction
The creative direction for this year’s festival centered on the theme of “Come Together,” which I interpreted through visuals that emphasized connection and unity. I developed a design language that incorporated conjoined rings, wire mesh grids, and 3D elements, symbolizing the merging of diverse communities and shared experiences. These graphics were paired with vibrant technicolor gradients, creating a sense of motion and energy that flowed through every asset.
The challenge was to create visuals that were eye-catching and memorable while remaining versatile enough to be used across digital platforms, print, and physical event spaces. By focusing on these abstract elements, I crafted a dynamic look that tied everything together, reinforcing the festival's message of inclusivity and celebration.
Design & Production
My role extended far beyond conceptualizing the visuals. I was deeply involved in the design and production of every event asset, from the website and ticketing graphics to stage banners, ad walls, billboards, signage, apparel, and event credentials. Each graphic element needed to reflect the festival’s lively, high-energy atmosphere while also functioning practically in the festival setting.
The technicolor gradients and 3D elements were used strategically to create a consistent visual identity across all mediums, giving the festival a bold, modern look that was as exciting as the event itself. This approach was applied not only to large-scale visuals like stage banners and billboards but also to smaller details like wristbands and credentials, ensuring a fully immersive brand experience.
Lineup Poster
One of the key pieces of visual content was the lineup poster, which needed to present a large array of performers in an engaging and organized manner. Using the same graphic elements and technicolor palette, I created a poster that was visually cohesive with the rest of the event’s branding. The wire mesh and flowing gradients created a dynamic background, while the bold typography and structured grid layout ensured that each artist’s name was clearly visible and easy to read.
This poster was not just a promotional tool but also a representation of the festival’s energy and diversity. The balance between order and vibrancy captured the excitement of the festival while maintaining functionality. The grid allowed for the inclusion of many artists without overwhelming the viewer, ensuring a seamless blend of design and information.
Motion Graphics for Social Media
I was responsible for animating the key art for Wynwood Pride 2022’s social media campaigns. Using the festival’s signature technicolor gradients and 3D elements, I brought static visuals to life with dynamic motion graphics. These animations included fluid transitions, pulsing elements, and subtle movements that emphasized the theme of "Come Together," making the content more engaging and eye-catching across platforms. The animated key art played a crucial role in building excitement and driving engagement in the lead-up to the festival.
Out of Home Marketing & Billboards
A major component of Wynwood Pride 2022’s promotional strategy was its Out of Home (OOH) marketing. I designed a series of eye-catching billboards and other large-scale promotional assets, ensuring the vibrant technicolor theme carried over into public spaces. These billboards featured bold, striking gradients and the event’s signature conjoined rings and wire mesh elements, creating a sense of motion and convergence that captured attention.
The goal was to give these OOH materials the same dynamic energy as the event itself, ensuring that they stood out in high-traffic areas and drew people into the excitement of the festival. With bold typography and striking color contrasts, the billboards were designed not only to inform but to intrigue, generating buzz for the event across the city. In addition to billboards, the campaign included posters, ad walls, and street-level signage, all unified under the same cohesive visual identity.
Teamwork & Event Execution
Wynwood Pride 2022 was a massive team effort, and I played an active role in both the creative process and the physical setup of the event. Every night leading up to the festival, I was on-site working until the early hours of the morning to help set up stages, banners, and other visual elements. This hands-on approach allowed me to ensure that the creative vision I developed translated perfectly into the physical space. During the day, I continued to work on design and production, making sure all signage and stage were executed to perfection.
Working closely with event organizers and the production team, we were able to bring the creative vision to life across all three stages and every part of the festival experience, including the entrance and fencing (a favorite of mine, featured below).
Merch & Apparel
One of the standout pieces of Wynwood Pride 2022 merchandise was the custom-designed hat. Featuring the festival’s signature color scheme of vibrant technicolor gradients, the hat was reversable; designed to be both stylish and versatile. The minimalist base allowed the bold colors to pop, making it a subtle yet eye-catching accessory that quickly became a festival favorite.
Website & Ticket Sales
The Wynwood Pride website served as the central hub for ticket sales and event information. I designed the layout to align with the festival’s visual identity, incorporating bold gradients and 3D elements for a cohesive look. The ticket sales page featured custom web animations, with dynamic transitions and hover effects that made the purchasing process interactive and engaging, adding an extra layer of excitement for users.
Results
Wynwood Pride 2022 was a vibrant and visually stunning celebration that captured the essence of “Come Together.” The cohesive branding, combined with the dynamic design elements, helped make this one of the most memorable Pride events to date. From the bold technicolor gradients to the interconnected design motifs, every visual aspect reinforced the festival’s message of unity, diversity, and celebration. The event not only delivered an unforgettable experience for attendees but also showcased the power of creativity in bringing people together. The collaborative nature of this project was key to its success, and seeing the final result—thousands of people enjoying the festival in a visually cohesive and energetic environment—was incredibly rewarding.
